US stock markets began the first trading day of the week with a decline. The Dow Jones index fell by 0.13 percent to 44,312.85 points, while the S&P 500 index dropped by 0.09 percent to 6,254.22 points. The Nasdaq index followed a flat course, remaining at 20,588.27 points.

US President Donald Trump announced in a statement over the weekend that an additional 30 percent customs duty would be imposed on products imported from the European Union and Mexico starting August 1. This decision has increased concerns that trade wars could reignite.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated that they would continue negotiations with the US regarding tariffs, but that they would retaliate if an agreement could not be reached. Analysts state that this situation is creating uncertainty in the markets.

Trump expressed that the resignation of US Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell would be a "wonderful development." In a statement made via social media, he argued that the US has been suffering losses commercially and militarily for many years and that this is unsustainable.

Cleveland Fed President Beth Hammack, on the other hand, stated that the impact of the tariffs is uncertain and that she does not see an urgent need to lower interest rates.

This week in the US, June inflation and retail sales data, as well as the second-quarter balance sheets of major banks, will be closely watched. Additionally, while the price of Bitcoin has broken a new record by exceeding 122 thousand dollars, the US House of Representatives will address three bills with the goal of making the country the "crypto capital of the planet."
