The US Department of Labor released weekly data on unemployment benefit claims.
Accordingly, the number of people filing for unemployment benefits for the first time in the country increased by 9,000 compared to the previous week, rising to 224,000 in the week ending January 27.
The number of claims, which rose for the second consecutive week and exceeded market expectations, was projected to be 213,000 for this period.
REVISED
The previous week's data on unemployment benefit claims was also revised upward from 214,000 to 215,000.
As of last week, the 4-week moving average of unemployment benefit claims increased by 5,250 compared to the previous week, rising to 207,750.
The number of continuing unemployment benefit claims increased by 70,000 in the week ending January 20, reaching 1 million 898 thousand.
