UTTS crisis: System crashes 2 days before implementation!
The National Vehicle Identification System (UTTS), which has been a subject of debate in the public eye due to its "exorbitant pricing," experienced a major failure just two days before the application was set to begin. Due to a technical problem that lasted for hours across Turkey, the installation of Vehicle Identification Units (TTB) could not be carried out.

Although the National Vehicle Identification System (UTTS) came back online shortly after, the outage revealed infrastructure deficiencies that could directly affect millions of vehicle owners. Experts warned that "if such system failures occur after May 1, fuel will not be able to be provided to 13 million vehicles, and transport and logistics could be disrupted."
CRISIS ON THE FINAL DAY
Implemented to prevent tax loss, the UTTS becomes mandatory for all commercial vehicles as of Thursday, May 1, 2025. The application, which covers taxis, trucks, semi-trucks, minibuses, buses, shuttle vehicles, and rental vehicles, had previously set a registration deadline of January 31, 2025. These vehicles were required to have the Vehicle Identification Unit (TTB) installed by April 30. The application will officially go into effect tomorrow.
The increased density caused by leaving TTB installations to the final days led to the system locking up completely on Monday. According to the report by Sözcü, although experts stated that the outage was caused by "overloading," the failure also brought with it serious concerns for the period after May 1.
FUEL SALES STOP, FINES RAIN DOWN
Experts point out that if a similar system failure occurs after the application begins, serious disruptions could occur in transportation and logistics. The risks are listed as follows:
- Fuel sales stop.
- In the event of a system failure, pumps with UTTS will not work.
- Fines rain down.
- If a sale is still made to a commercial vehicle, a tax penalty is imposed on the fuel station.
- No tax deduction.
- SCT and VAT deductions will not be applied to commercial vehicles.
