While the raise rate for civil servants and civil servant retirees was set at 49.25 percent, this figure remained at 37.57 percent for SSK and Bağ-Kur retirees.
AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğanannounced the additional raise rate expected by millions of retirees as 5 percent.
Declaring 2024 as the 'Year of Retirees,' Erdoğan also announced that the lowest pension had been increased from 7,500 TL to 10,000 TL.
Millions of retirees, disappointed by the 5 percent additional raise, were condemned to a starvation wage. While reactions to the AKP's 5 percent additional raise decision continue, rumors have begun to circulate in political circles that the government will provide an additional raise to retirees before the local elections.
Fatih Altaylı'S REACTION TO MURAT KURUM
Evaluating the agenda on his YouTube channel, journalist Fatih Altaylı spoke about the expected raise in pensions and the statements made by AKP's Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality candidate Murat Kurum.
Altaylı stated that he could not make sense of Kurum making promises regarding city security and pension raises, emphasizing that an issue specifically related to city security is outside the authority of a mayor.
HE GAVE BOTH A DATE AND ANNOUNCED A RATE
In the continuation of his remarks, Altaylı spoke about the expectation of a new hike in pension salaries. Emphasizing that a demand and expectation regarding a raise have emerged, Altaylı used the following expressions while providing a date and rate for the hike:
"It is certainly being reported that there is dissatisfaction among retirees and that some retirees are angry. And to win the election, if necessary, they could grant another 30 to 40 percent raise just one week before the election. Have no doubt about it. This is the advantage of holding the central government. You can implement election economics. Whether it is local, general, or presidential. They have the chance to implement this."
WHAT DID MURAT KURUM SAY?
AKP's Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality mayoral candidate Murat Kurum had stated that pension salaries would be increased as an election promise. Kurum had said, "We will provide a support payment of 2,500 liras to the Istanbul Cards of our retirees in need every month."
