THE SECRET BEHIND THE 2 TL IN THE MINIMUM WAGE

According to Ahmet Kıvanç from Habertürk, there is a logical reason for the minimum wage being set with a fractional amount. Both wage payments and premium payments made to the Social Security Institution (SGK) based on wages are determined according to the daily minimum wage. For this reason, the minimum wage is actually determined on a daily basis, not a monthly one. The gross minimum wage is calculated by multiplying the daily amount by 30. The gross and net minimum wage can have fractional amounts so that the daily minimum wage results in an exact number.

For example, if the gross minimum wage were 20,000 TL, the 1-day minimum wage would be a number extending as 666.6666. However, when 20,002.50 TL is divided by 30, the daily minimum wage becomes 666.75 TL. Payments such as the wages of daily laborers, military service, maternity, and international service debt buybacks, as well as optional insurance premiums, are calculated based on the daily wage.
