Will Şimşek be able to get results from his meetings with US investors? A guarantee that 'no additional taxes will come'

Mehmet Şimşek was part of the Turkish delegation that traveled to the US for the 79th UN General Assembly. Şimşek will attempt to create new economic options for Turkey by holding meetings with investors.

Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek continues his meetings with investors in New York. Şimşek's goal is to secure economic resources for Turkey as a result of these meetings. According to initial reports, the meetings are progressing positively.

According to information obtained, Şimşek met with the senior management of leading US investment banks Goldman Sachs, Citigroup, and Morgan Stanley as part of his New York contacts.

Şimşek explained the economic program at a roundtable meeting hosted by Goldman Sachs. The meeting was attended by a group of 15 investors consisting of portfolio managers from some of the world's largest funds.

INVESTORS SHOWED INTEREST IN TURKEY'S ECONOMIC PROGRAM

Making a detailed presentation at the Investment Conference organized by the Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEİK) Turkey-US Business Council (TAİK) and Goldman Sachs, Şimşek also answered questions moderated by Goldman Sachs Global Affairs President Jared Cohen.

It was learned that participants who took the floor at the well-attended meeting at Goldman Sachs congratulated the success of the program.

MEETING HELD WITH META EXECUTIVES AS WELL

Mehmet Şimşek also held several bilateral meetings as part of his New York contacts.

Şimşek held productive meetings with META Global Affairs President Nick Clegg and International Finance Corporation (IFC) Managing Director Makhtar Diop and his accompanying delegation.

Şimşek also attended the America-Turkey business world meeting hosted by the US branch of the Anatolian Lions Businessmen Association (ASKON).

WAS A GUARANTEE GIVEN TO INVESTORS THAT THE ECONOMIC PROGRAM WILL NOT CHANGE?

It was learned that in these meetings, Şimşek conveyed to investors that spending discipline and the fight against the informal economy would be the focal points of tight fiscal policies and that no new additional taxes are planned.

Meanwhile, Turkey is expected to secure 9 billion dollars in financing from the IFC between 2024 and 2028. For the 2024 fiscal year, approximately 3.6 billion dollars, and for the 2025 fiscal year, 600 million dollars in financing have been provided to the private sector by the IFC so far.
