Rising fraud cases in Turkey have led to a series of additional measures being taken for banking systems. It has been learned that a new practice for ATM PINs is being introduced following the latest directive sent to banks by the BRSA, and it has been stated that restrictions on many PINs will be implemented as of this week.

While rising inflation in Turkey has caused changes in the consumption habits of millions of citizens, the usage rate of credit and debit cards continues to increase every day.
This situation has made the use of credit or debit cards quite popular in theft and fraud cases, and banks, which remained insufficient in the measures they took, have decided to put a new practice into effect. In the directive sent to banks by the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BRSA), information was shared regarding new restrictions to be applied to card transactions.
THESE PINS WILL NO LONGER BE USABLE
Banks, which imposed restrictions in recent months on the most commonly used PINs in Turkey such as 1453, 1923, and 1881, will also ban the use of sports clubs' founding dates as PINs with the change to be made. Users whose current bank or credit card PIN falls under this restriction will be directed to the PIN change screen during their first transaction via an ATM.
The practice, which was communicated to banks as of last week, is expected to start being implemented in all banks across Turkey starting tomorrow.
CARDS OF THOSE WHO DO NOT CHANGE THEM WILL BE CANCELLED
The cards of users who insist on not setting a PIN that complies with the regulations on the PIN change screen that will appear will be closed to use.
In the new period, while PINs such as 1903, 1905, 1907, and 6161 are expected to be included in the restriction list, double-digit license plate codes such as 2727 or 5353 will also not be valid for ATM PINs. Users whose current PIN falls under this restriction will be able to change their card PINs via mobile applications without having to visit an ATM.
