Your shipment may not be on its way: The 'Adabeyan' fraud method
The Anadolu University Social Media and Digital Security Education, Application and Research Center (SODİGEM) has drawn attention to the increasing danger of fraud, particularly through messages that appear to come from courier companies and ask users to click on a link after starting with the phrase 'Your shipment is on its way'.

SODİGEM Director Prof. Dr. Adile Aşkım Kurt stated that information theft carried out through digital platforms causes individuals to suffer both financial and moral losses, and that one must be careful regarding such issues.
Stating that users' personal information is often seized through various attack attempts carried out by hackers, Prof. Dr. Kurt provided the following information: "Cybercriminals use methods called 'phishing'—a type of social engineering attack—to gain the trust of their target and then deceive them into handing over the information they want."
Prof. Dr. Kurt emphasized that in the phishing method, scammers wait for users to fall into a trap by sending random messages or emails, much like baiting a hook to catch a fish.
Pointing out that the content of the sent messages or emails can appear as if they come from official or well-known institutions, banks, internet service providers, or courier companies, Prof. Dr. Kurt said, "The message content may contain a link that the user is asked to log in to or click. The message or email contains a link that users are asked to click for unrealistic reasons, such as updating their membership information or changing their passwords because their accounts have been stolen, and when clicked, they are actually directed to a completely different site."
"IT SHOULD BE VERIFIED BY CONTACTING THE RELEVANT INSTITUTION"
Prof. Dr. Adile Aşkım Kurt stated that the information of users who enter their personal data—which they should not share with others for their own security—into a site created for a trap that looks like a copy of the service provider's site mentioned in the message, is being seized.
Stating that individuals must be very careful to protect themselves against attacks, Prof. Dr. Kurt noted the following:
-Every type of message, communication, email, and advertisement received through digital environments should be approached with suspicion.
-Even if these messages come from a family member or friend, it should be considered that their accounts may also have been compromised by cybercriminals.
-Since changes in artificial intelligence technologies today can cause very effective illusions in the content of these messages, suspicious content received must be verified from its true source.
-To avoid falling victim to phishing, one should not be hasty when performing transactions in digital environments.
-Advertisements created to attract attention, such as 'If you reply to this message, if you click here, congratulations you won, you are the lucky person,' should not be believed.
-Message content received specifically by the user from banks, e-commerce sites, or courier companies should be verified by contacting the relevant institution before being taken into account.
-Users should also ensure that the digital devices and software they use are up to date and that security applications are active against phishing attacks.
-Any email, message, advertisement, or internet address suspected of being a phishing attack should be reported to the relevant authorities as soon as possible.
