2026 Mimar Sinan Grand Award to Semra and Özcan Uygur

The Chamber of Architects' 2026 Mimar Sinan Grand Award has been presented to Semra Uygur and Özcan Uygur for their long-standing contributions to the field of public architecture.

The ceremony, held as part of the National Architecture Exhibition and Awards, took place on Friday, April 10, 2026, at the Zübeyde Hanım Social Facility in Ankara. The Uygur couple received the award from the President of the Chamber of Architects, Zeynep Erez.

In the evaluation conducted by the Chamber of Architects, it was stated that Semra and Özcan Uygur were deemed worthy of the award due to their contemporary architectural works, their design philosophy focused on public structures, and their contributions to professional practice spanning many years.

It was noted that the couple's work, particularly in the fields of public, cultural, and educational structures, reflects an approach that combines functionality, environmental sensitivity, and spatial quality.

Semra and Özcan Uygur, both graduates of the Middle East Technical University Faculty of Architecture, are considered among the figures who have contributed to the development of contemporary public architecture in Turkey.

The Mimar Sinan Grand Award, which has been presented since 1988, is given to architects who have created lasting works in the field of architecture and contributed to the development of the profession.
