The Ministry of National Education (MEB) has made the new curriculum draft, titled "Century of Turkey Education Model", for compulsory courses at all grade levels available for public review at https://gorusoneri.meb.gov.tr. Opinions on the new curriculum draft can be submitted via the website for one week.

"CENTURY OF TURKEY EDUCATION MODEL"

Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin stated that they have defined the name of the new curriculum as the "Century of Turkey Education Model," and remarked, "We have strived to produce an original model by utilizing universal models while also incorporating our own values into the system."

The new curriculum aims to provide students with literacy skills in 9 areas: information, digital, financial, visual, cultural, citizenship, data, sustainability, and art.

"WE HAVE STREAMLINED THE CURRICULUM BY 35 PERCENT"

Tekin drew attention to the subject density of the current curriculum. He announced that instead of increasing weekly course hours to cover the curriculum, they have opted to simplify the topics.

The Minister of National Education said, "There is no change in course hours; there is a simplification in the topics. We have implemented a 35 percent reduction in the curriculum."

At the end of the one-week review period, the Board of Education and Discipline will examine the criticisms, opinions, and suggestions received and finalize the curriculum.

The new curriculum will be implemented in the first grade of every level in the 2024-2025 academic year.

Preschool, first grade of primary school, fifth grade of middle school, and ninth grade of high school will be educated under the new curriculum.

ONE-WEEK PROCESS

Following the one-week review process, the “Century of Turkey Education Model” will be revised by the Board of Education and Discipline in line with the final criticisms, opinions, suggestions, and contributions, and will reach its final form.

The new curriculum will begin to be implemented gradually starting from the next academic year in preschool, the first grade of primary school, the fifth grade of middle school, and the ninth grade of high school.
