Attendance practices in universities are gaining a new dimension through digitalization steps. Instead of the traditional paper-based signature method, many universities are aiming to prevent time loss by transitioning to digital systems. In this new system, electronic attendance methods using QR codes and location verification are coming to the forefront.
According to a report by Türkiye Gazetesi, in the new application, instructors will generate a special QR code at the beginning of each class. Students will complete their attendance by scanning this code with their mobile devices when they enter the classroom. The course-based and short-term validity of the code increases the security of the system and prevents its use outside of class.
Alternatively, attendance can also be taken through the university's official application. Students will join the attendance opened by the instructor in the system via the “electronic attendance” section of the app. While the location verification feature confirms that the student is in the classroom, device identity verification will only allow registered devices to participate in the attendance.
