Erdoğan signs decree: Some university faculties closed, new units established

With a presidential decree published in the Official Gazette, new units were established at some universities, while certain faculties and institutes were closed.

With a decree signed by AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, changes were made to the academic structure of several universities. According to the decision published in the Official Gazette, two new faculties and institutes were established, four academic units were closed, and the names of three units were changed.

Within the scope of the decision, a Graduate Education Institute was established under the Turkey International Islamic, Science and Technology University. A Faculty of Computer and Informatics Sciences was opened at Yıldız Technical University.

Under the same decision, the Institute of Science, the Institute of Health Sciences, and the Institute of Social Sciences at the Turkey International Islamic, Science and Technology University were closed. The Faculty of Applied Sciences at Yıldız Technical University was also among the closed units.

Changes were also made to the names of some units at the universities. The name of the Batman University Faculty of Islamic Sciences was changed to the Faculty of Theology.

The new name of the Gebze Technical University Institute of Information Technologies became the Institute of Artificial Intelligence. The name of the Sakarya University of Applied Sciences Faculty of Applied Sciences was reorganized as the Faculty of Business and Management Sciences.
