Evening education programs closed

YÖK President Erol Özvar announced a new decision regarding evening education programs at state universities.

Özvar announced that evening education programs at state universities have been closed.

Özvar stated, "Perhaps our most important effort this term to improve program quality at our universities has been the closure of evening education programs at our state universities. For foundation universities, just as in the state sector, it will be ensured that these are transformed into programs that are sensitive to employment and suitable for the professions of the future, rather than evening education programs."

Özvar noted that foundation universities have also been asked to make their plans for the coming year accordingly.

80 THOUSAND STUDENTS WERE PLACED

Last year, approximately 80,000 students were placed in 1,308 evening education programs.

This means there will be a decrease of approximately this amount in YKS quotas this year as well.

A decision was also made to reduce quotas for architecture, pharmacy, psychology, nutrition and dietetics, and certain programs specific to basic sciences.
