LGS excitement begins: More than 1 million students will sweat it out
The LGS central exam, which more than 1 million students will participate in, began today. The exam, held in two sessions, featured questions from the 8th-grade curriculum. Results will be announced on July 11.

The central exam under the High School Transition System (LGS) for 8th-grade students, conducted by the Ministry of National Education (MEB), began today at 09:30.
A total of 1 million 10 thousand 916 students applied for the central exam. The exam will be held in 62 thousand 693 classrooms across 3 thousand 938 schools in 973 domestic exam centers, and in 37 classrooms across 13 schools in 13 exam centers abroad.
Students who do not take the exam, which is not mandatory, will be placed in high schools through local placement.
The exam will be based on the learning outcomes of the 8th-grade curriculum and will include questions that measure students' skills such as reading comprehension, interpretation, drawing conclusions, problem-solving, analysis, critical thinking, and scientific processes.
In the first session, which will start at 09:30 Turkey time, students will be asked a total of 50 questions from the subjects of Turkish, History of the Turkish Revolution and Kemalism, Religious Culture and Moral Knowledge, and Foreign Language, with a duration of 75 minutes.
The second session will begin at 11:30. In this session, students will be asked a total of 40 questions from mathematics and science, with a duration of 80 minutes.
During the 45-minute break between sessions, students will be able to go out into the schoolyards and attend to their needs.
IDENTITY DOCUMENT IS MANDATORY
Students must have their photo-bearing, approved exam entry document and a valid identity document with them when they come to the exam. In addition, students will need to have at least two dark, soft lead pencils, a pencil sharpener, and a soft, non-smudging eraser.
When calculating exam scores, the number of correct and incorrect answers for each sub-test in the verbal and numerical sections will be determined. Each student's raw score for each sub-test will be calculated by subtracting one-third of the number of incorrect answers from the number of correct answers for the relevant test.
As in previous years, students will be able to pick up their exam booklets from the schools where they took the exam one day later.
Local placement procedures for students who do not participate in the exam will be carried out by provincial and district national education directorates based on the type, capacity, and location of schools, according to criteria including the students' residential addresses, school achievement score superiority, and the lower number of unexcused absences from school.
In case of a tie in the evaluation, placement will be made by looking at the year-end achievement score superiority in the 8th, 7th, and 6th grades, respectively.
RESULTS WILL BE ANNOUNCED ON JULY 11
The central exam results will be announced on July 11, 2025, on the website "meb.gov.tr". Exam result documents will not be sent to students by mail.
Preference procedures will take place between July 14-24. Placement results and vacant quotas will be announced on August 4.
The 1st and 2nd transfer preference applications and results based on placement will be carried out between August 4-14.
