In recent years in Turkey, many children have been drifting away from education either because of economic reasons or due to a lack of family interest. In response to this picture, the Ministry of National Education (MEB), which has developed a new action plan, is putting the “Project to Reduce Absenteeism in Basic Education” into practice.

The main aim of the project is to detect absenteeism early, prevent students from dropping out of school and reintegrate them into the education system.

According to a report by Türkiye Gazetesi, MEB will analyze absenteeism rates in detail through the e-Okul system and assess the situation at the provincial, district and school levels.

Special solution plans will be prepared in line with the specific needs of each region. In this way, the aim is to address the problem not with one-size-fits-all measures, but with flexible solutions based on local conditions.

MONITORING THROUGH A TRACKING SYSTEM

Thanks to the internet-based monitoring module to be put into effect, plans created locally will be tracked in real time. Through this system, the ministry will oversee activities carried out in the provinces and will also have the opportunity to measure the effectiveness and results of the process.

The project is planned to last three years, and the provinces where it will be implemented in the first phase have also been determined.

Accordingly, Adana, Ağrı, Bursa, Çankırı, Edirne, Hatay, Gaziantep, Istanbul, İzmir, Kahramanmaraş, Karabük, Kayseri, Konya, Muş, Şanlıurfa, Trabzon and Yalova will be covered by the project. In these provinces, the reasons for students’ absenteeism will be examined on site and appropriate intervention programs will be put into action.
