Handgun found in school restroom in Küçükçekmece: Assistant principal suspended

A handgun found in the restroom of a school building in Küçükçekmece, Istanbul, has been identified as belonging to an assistant principal; an investigation has been launched.

In Istanbul's Küçükçekmece district, an incident that raised security concerns occurred at a school building shared by the Science and Art Center (BİLSEM) and the Vocational Training Center (MESEM). The handgun found in the building's restroom was determined to belong to an assistant principal working at the institution.

According to the information obtained, the incident came to light when a parent, who had come to the school to pick up their student in the afternoon, used the restroom on the first floor. The parent noticed the handgun hanging on a hook behind the stall door.

Initially thinking the weapon might be a toy, the parent grew suspicious after checking it and notified the school administration. Police teams arrived at the school following the report, conducted an investigation at the scene, and seized the handgun.

As a result of the investigation and statements taken, it was determined that the weapon belonged to the assistant principal working at the school. Following the incident, the assistant principal was suspended from duty, and both judicial and administrative investigations have been launched regarding the circumstances under which the weapon was brought to the school and why it was left in the restroom.

It was learned that the investigation is ongoing.
