He said there was no such thing as paid substitute teaching: e-Devlet contradicts Minister Tekin

Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin's remarks regarding the paid substitute teaching system have caused controversy within the education community. Speaking on a television program he attended, Tekin stated that the practice is not an official staff category, using the expressions, "This is a made-up concept. There is no such thing in our legislation."

Tekin emphasized that the system is frequently misunderstood, stating that paid substitute teaching does not have a legal status and is merely a temporary formula created to meet the need for teachers.

APPLICATIONS CONTINUE 

However, despite Minister Tekin's statements, it was observed that paid substitute teaching applications continue to be accepted via e-Devlet. According to a report by T24, there is a section in the system titled "Paid Substitute Teaching Application," and teachers whose applications are approved begin their duties by submitting their documents to the District Directorates of National Education.

NUMBER OF PAID SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS EXCEEDS 86 THOUSAND 

According to research by Türk Eğitim-Sen, the number of paid substitute teachers across Turkey has shown a significant increase in the 2024-2025 academic year. It was determined that a total of 86 thousand 136 paid substitute teachers are employed in 78 provinces.
