Emphasizing that more than 86 thousand contract teachers are currently employed, Hürriyetçi Eğitim Sen Chairman Levent Kuruoğlu said, "We want the appointment of 68 thousand teachers to be carried out without interviews, as promised. We do not want to experience the same injustices and the same disgrace again."
In his statement, Kuruoğlu noted the following:
"Last term, despite all our efforts, only 20 thousand teachers were appointed, and despite the promise made by Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the interview system was not abolished. Mr. Yusuf Tekin turned the interview process into a personal crusade, ignoring the promises made and defending the indispensability of interviews with desperate effort.
Despite all our objections, warnings from experts, and public reaction, the interviews resulted in commissions giving different scores across regions, which led to great injustices and stole the future of thousands of teachers. Despite the lawsuits filed and stay-of-execution decisions, not even an additional appointment was made to alleviate this injustice, and the stubbornness of those who committed these injustices could not be broken, nor did their consciences ache!
'MORE THAN 86 THOUSAND CONTRACT TEACHERS ARE WORKING; 68 THOUSAND APPOINTMENTS MUST BE MADE IMMEDIATELY AND WITHOUT INTERVIEWS'
The old system will be applied again in the teacher appointments to be made this term, and in subsequent terms, teacher recruitment will be carried out through the National Education Academy. However, teacher recruitment through the academy is fraught with major problems. A difficult process awaits our teachers. It does not seem possible to make appointments of 30, 40, or 50 thousand through the academy system. For this reason, setting the appointments for this term, which will be made under the old system, at 68 thousand in line with the demands of our teachers is a debt that both Mr. Tekin and the government owe to teachers. Moreover, considering that more than 86 thousand contract teachers are still employed, even 68 thousand appointments will not be enough to close the teacher shortage.
'WE WILL FOLLOW UP ON THIS'
As Hürriyetçi Eğitim Sen, we want the appointment of 68 thousand teachers to be carried out this time without interviews, as promised. We do not want to experience the same injustices and the same disgrace again. We will be closely following the appointment process!"
