Is the mid-term break being abolished? Yusuf Tekin explains

Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin stated that he has received numerous requests from parents to abolish the mid-term break. He noted that working parents struggle during the holiday period, children are reluctant to return to school after the break, and teachers have reported difficulties with readaptation.

Tekin indicated that they have been analyzing the mid-term break practice for two years and will re-evaluate the policy once this year's results are finalized.

NEW SOFTWARE SYSTEM FOR ADDRESS-BASED REGISTRATION

Minister Tekin stated that some parents register their children at different addresses to bypass the address-based registration system. He said this method has caused class sizes to rise to 40 in some schools while dropping to as low as 15 in others.

Stating that the Ministry and the Ministry of Interior are jointly developing new software, Tekin announced that this system will automatically block out-of-district registrations. He emphasized that this would relieve school administrators from registration pressure.

COMPULSORY EDUCATION DEBATE

Touching upon the debate over compulsory education, Tekin said that children today access information much faster than in previous years. He stated that students' readiness levels have increased due to the internet, social media, documentaries, and artificial intelligence tools.

Tekin reminded that in some countries, students can start universities like Oxford or Harvard at the age of 16, and said that Turkey is conducting this discussion carefully. He emphasized that they would not proceed with any changes without making preparations.

STUDIES ON HIGH SCHOOL EDUCATION CONTINUE

Tekin stated that work regarding the duration of high school education is ongoing, but no decision has been made yet.

DATES SET FOR TEACHER APPOINTMENTS

Stating that they will complete norm updates in November, Tekin announced that they will appoint 15 thousand teachers. He also noted that they will announce the field distribution for 10 thousand teachers in December.
