Marmara University moves to Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Complex: Students react
The decision to move certain faculties from Marmara University's Göztepe and Kartal campuses to the Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Complex has sparked a backlash from students. Students noted that housing and transportation problems will increase.

Marmara University Rectorate has announced that four departments at the Istanbul Göztepe campus and the faculties in Kartal will be moved to the Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Complex.
Students have reacted to the relocation of the Atatürk Faculty of Education, the Faculty of Economics, the Faculty of Business Administration, and the Faculty of Political Sciences located at the Göztepe campus, as well as the Faculty of Financial Sciences in Kartal, to the Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Complex located on the Maltepe Başıbüyük road.
Students, who made their voices heard on social media, stated: "This year, they are moving our faculty to a campus very far from the city just to open Göztepe up for rent-seeking. We are already experiencing housing problems as students. In addition to this, we will also face transportation problems. As business students, we do not bow down, and we invite you to hear our voice."
THERE ARE MANY PROBLEMS
There is a distance of 13-17 km by vehicle between the Marmara University Göztepe Campus and the Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Complex. Transportation to the campus is provided by buses or by getting off at the Küçükyalı stop on the M4 metro line and transferring to a bus.
A person trying to reach the campus after getting off the metro needs to walk for 25-30 minutes. In a video they filmed at the Maltepe Campus, students addressed the following issues: "The school is very large; walking from one end to the other is very difficult. The ring service at the school is insufficient. Many parts of the school are under construction; we don't know what the classrooms are like."
According to the report by Cumhuriyet, approximately 11 thousand 822 students will move from the Göztepe campus to the Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Complex Maltepe Campus, according to data published by the university last year.
Furthermore, the land of Marmara University's campus in Nişantaşı had been awarded via tender to Eltes İnşaat and İstlife Business Partnership, a subsidiary of DAP Holding. While the holding is building luxury apartments on the aforementioned land under the name "Nişantaşı Koru," reactions to this situation have continued for years.
