Ministry of National Education revokes licenses of 21 private schools

The Ministry of National Education (MEB) has intensified its inspections of private schools. Various irregularities have been encountered during audits conducted since May.

As a result of these inspections, the licenses of 21 private schools found to be in violation of regulations were revoked. The Ministry is pursuing a zero-tolerance policy against such irregularities.

REGULATORY VIOLATIONS UNDER SCRUTINY

According to statements made by the MEB, inspections of private schools have identified issues including "ghost student" practices, attendance tracking failures, the use of unapproved textbooks, school fees that violate regulations, the use of names on signage not specified in the license, the use of unauthorized programs, and misleading advertisements.

To prevent such irregularities, the MEB continues to carry out procedures based on the Law on Private Educational Institutions.

The Ministry is also combating exorbitant price increases implemented in private schools. Furthermore, inspections continue to ensure that institution names are used correctly and to prevent parents from being harmed by misleading social media advertisements. It is stated that awareness must be raised against misleading announcements and advertisements by schools and institutions on social media.

LICENSE REVOCATIONS CONTINUE

The MEB's inspections have resulted in the revocation of 21 school licenses since May 2023. In previous inspections, 12 schools had their licenses revoked. In the most recent audits, 9 more schools lost their operating permits due to regulatory violations. These inspections are considered an important step toward preventing irregularities in the education sector.
