Minister of National Education Tekin defended the new curriculum this way: We simplified it

The opening ceremony for the annex buildings of the Akçakoca Orhan Özdemir Science High School Campus, built by philanthropist Burhan Özdemir in the Akçakoca district of Düzce, took place with the participation of Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin. 

The ceremony was attended by Düzce Governor Selçuk Aslan, Akçakoca District Governor Mustafa Can, Mayor Fikret Albayrak, school officials, and students.

DEVELOPMENTS IN PHYSICAL INFRASTRUCTURE

In his speech at the ceremony, Minister Tekin touched upon developments regarding the physical infrastructure of the education system and stated the following:

"In 2023, a teacher who wrote a letter for the 100th anniversary of our Republic asked, 'Will I ever be able to teach in a class of 40 students?' Today, class sizes range between 20 and 24 students. We have almost the same physical infrastructure as the world's most advanced education systems. We have built earthquake-resistant, world-class schools. We have brought the physical capacity of our education system to a certain point in terms of both quality and quantity."

Minister Tekin stated that there are approximately 1 million 130 thousand teachers working across Turkey, emphasizing that the vast majority of these teachers were appointed in the last 20 years. Minister Tekin drew attention to the number of students per teacher to increase the quality of education.

WE SIMPLIFIED THE CURRICULUM

Tekin stated that the physical infrastructure in education has been completed and that they are now focusing on the content of the curriculum and the quality of education. Saying that they have reduced the information density that burdens students by simplifying the curriculum in an era where accessing information is now easier, he stated the following: 

"We have simplified our curriculum by 35%. Instead of providing education with excessive information overload, we are now adopting an educational approach that transforms information into skills. We want our children to acquire many values, from patriotism to compassion."

Following his speech, Minister Tekin inaugurated the 400-person modern conference hall, the indoor sports hall, the new-generation library, and the laboratory building specific to the expanded education system, which will be implemented as a pilot project for the first time in Turkey. With these facilities, it is aimed that students will have easier access to modern educational opportunities.
