New curriculum statement from Minister of National Education Tekin: 'It will be implemented gradually'

Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin responded to journalists' questions following the cabinet meeting held yesterday.

Stating that the new curriculum will be implemented gradually, Minister Tekin announced that the implementation will begin in the 1st, 5th, and 9th grades in the 2024-2025 academic year.

The new curriculum will be introduced to the public once the work is completed.

A CURRICULUM SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN'S LEVELS WILL BE DEVELOPED

Responding to allegations that some topics have been removed from the mathematics course, Minister Tekin stated the following:

"The work of our Board of Education and Discipline is ongoing. 80 percent of the work has been completed. Approximately 2 thousand experts in their fields are working on the curriculum preparation. 40 percent of them are academics, and the rest are teachers. There are relevant academics involved in the scientific aspect of the work, and teachers involved in the practical application. It is being evaluated accordingly. What we care about is the students' levels. Is it necessary to teach information that should be taught at the undergraduate level during the compulsory education age? The Board of Education and Discipline, which is tasked with auditing and approving, will, in principle, present a curriculum suitable for our children's levels."

CHANGES BROUGHT BY THE NEW CURRICULUM

Within the scope of the new curriculum studies, course contents will be updated, and topics will be simplified according to grade levels. Details regarding the new curricula will be announced in April.
