New decision for Ayser Çalık Middle School in Kahramanmaraş, where 10 people were killed

A new decision has been made regarding the Ayser Çalık Middle School building in the Onikişubat district of Kahramanmaraş, where an armed attack took place on April 15. It was reported that the school, where 1 teacher and 9 students lost their lives in the attack, will serve as the Onikişubat District Directorate of National Education building from now on.

Ayser Çalık Middle School had been temporarily closed following the attack, taking into account the psychological state of the students and the demands of the parents. It had been decided that the students at the school would continue their education at Şehit Tebernuş Özler Middle School.

The uncertainty regarding the 15-classroom school building, which did not open for the 2026-2027 academic year, has ended with the decision of the Kahramanmaraş Governor's Office. It was stated that the Çalık family, who had the school built, was consulted before the decision and that the family consented to the building being used as the district directorate of national education.

It was learned that preparations for moving have begun for the Onikişubat District Directorate of National Education, which currently serves in a kindergarten building. A new school is planned to be built in the same area to replace Ayser Çalık Middle School. It has not yet been clarified whether the new school will be named "Ayser Çalık".

In the attack on April 15, mathematics teacher Ayla Kara and students Belinay Nur Boyraz, Adnan Göktürk Yeşil, Almina Ağaoğlu, Bayram Nabi Şişik, Furkan Sancak Balal, Kerem Erdem Güngör, Yusuf Tarık Gül, Şuranur Sevgi Kazıcı, and Zeynep Kılıç lost their lives; 15 students were also injured.
