New security measure in schools: 30,000 personnel to be authorized for detector checks at entrances

A new practice is being implemented to enhance security in schools ahead of the new academic year. Under the coordination of the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of National Education, and the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, 30,000 new security personnel will be employed to serve in schools.
The personnel, to be recruited via İŞKUR under the Community Benefit Program (TYP), are planned to be assigned to schools by governorates across 81 provinces. The practice is aimed to be implemented before the start of the new academic year.
DETECTOR CHECKS AT ENTRANCES
With the new system, security personnel stationed at school entrances will be authorized to conduct searches using detectors. The personnel will monitor individuals entering and exiting school buildings and will be able to immediately report suspicious situations or potential security risks to police and gendarmerie units.
According to a report in the Türkiye newspaper, the primary goal of the practice is to reduce security risks that may arise around schools and to prevent attacks similar to those that occurred in Şanlıurfa and Kahramanmaraş.
The assigned personnel are expected to form the first link in the rapid communication line between school administrations and law enforcement agencies. This is intended to ensure that information reaches the relevant units in a short time during risky situations.
In a circular previously sent by the Ministry of Interior to the governorates of 81 provinces, it was requested that security planning based on risk analysis be carried out in and around schools, early warning mechanisms be established, camera systems be strengthened, and rapid information sharing be ensured between school administration and law enforcement.
Security background checks for the newly assigned personnel will be conducted by the Ministry of Interior. The assessment of their suitability to work in schools will be carried out by the Ministry of National Education.
