The Ministry of National Education (MEB) General Directorate of Private Education Institutions continues its inspections of private schools across Turkey and the educational processes of students enrolled in them for the 2023-2024 academic year.
403 DIPLOMAS CANCELLED
As a result of the inspections, it was determined that some students did not attend school regularly, did not participate in exams, that school administrations failed to record absences for students who did not attend, that false grades were entered, that some schools did not meet the enrollment requirements for formal secondary education institutions, and that the equivalency certificates submitted during registration were not present in the Ministry's records.
In this context, the diplomas of 403 students were cancelled, while the grade advancement of 398 students was voided, and they were returned to their previous grade level.
10 SCHOOLS CLOSED, 25 SCHOOLS UNDER INVESTIGATION
Furthermore, the Ministry had previously cancelled the operating licenses of 6 private schools found to have established "ghost classrooms" for 12th-grade students who did not meet the requirements for transferring to open high school but wanted to prepare for university entrance exams through full-time courses, where lessons were not actually taught and absences were ignored.
Following the identification of 4 additional schools that established "ghost classrooms" in violation of regulations as a result of ongoing inspections, the licenses of these schools were also revoked, bringing the total number of private schools closed in the last month to 10.
Meanwhile, it has been learned that investigations and inquiries into 25 other schools are still underway.
