According to TÜİK data, there has been a decline in the number of schools and teachers. In the statistics provided in TÜİK's "Indicators of 100 Years," it was observed that while the number of primary and middle school students increased, the number of teachers in these schools decreased in 2022-2023 compared to the previous academic year.
TÜİK data has revealed that the appointment of 45,000 teachers, which AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced during his election campaign as the "first and largest appointment made at one time in 20 years," was not sufficient.
According to the report in Cumhuriyet, some notable data when compared to the previous academic year are as follows:
*The number of teachers in primary schools fell from 310,477 to 299,967, while the number of students rose from 5 million 433 thousand to 5 million 535 thousand.
*The number of teachers in middle schools fell from 376,747 to 372,536, while the number of students rose from 5 million 293 thousand to 5 million 524 thousand.
*The number of middle schools fell from 18,936 to 18,907.
