Tuition fee hikes for 2026

The regulation regarding tuition and education fees for the 2026-2027 academic term, which closely concerns university students and their families, has come into effect. In accordance with the Presidential Decree, student contribution fees and second-education and distance-learning tuition fees vary by faculty and program.

For first-education programs, student contribution fees for those studying at state universities within the normal duration of their education or for newly enrolled students will continue to be covered by the state. However, for second-education and distance-learning programs, students will be responsible for paying the determined annual fees.

At the faculty level, increases in contribution fees and tuition fees have reached notable levels in some departments.

MEDICAL SCHOOL LEADS THE WAY, HIKES REFLECTED ACROSS ALL FACULTIES

Under the new regulation, the highest contribution fee is seen in medical schools. In medical schools, where the current service cost has risen to 115,435 liras, the state's contribution will be 111,048 liras, while students will pay 4,386 liras. The contribution fee determined for dentistry faculties was announced as 3,669 liras, and 2,569 liras for pharmacy.

The new contribution fee amounts for some departments are listed as follows: Veterinary faculties 2,911 liras, aviation and space sciences 3,491 liras, and technical education faculties 2,984 liras. For departments including engineering and architecture, students will pay 2,876 liras. Science-literature and basic sciences are also on the list with a contribution fee of 2,111 liras.

In departments such as law, economics, business administration, and management sciences, the contribution fee was set at 2,323 liras. In many faculties such as social sciences, human and societal sciences, communication, tourism, health, and nursing, the contribution fee was kept at the 2,111 lira level. For Open Education Faculty students, this amount was determined as 479 liras.

While the contribution fee at the State Conservatory is 4,373 liras, an annual fee of 3,491 liras will be paid for civil aviation pilotage and air traffic control programs. For many vocational schools and higher vocational schools, a contribution fee of 1,688 liras was calculated.

In second-education and distance-learning programs, fees follow different figures. The second-education fee for veterinary faculties is 15,844 liras, while it goes up to 31,694 liras for aviation and space sciences pilotage programs. This amount was announced as 8,520 liras in technical education faculties.

Furthermore, in many faculties ranging from engineering to architecture, and from agricultural sciences to technology, second-education and distance-learning tuition fees have been raised to the annual level of 11,348 liras. In programs such as law, economics, and business administration, a second-education fee of 8,574 liras will be charged. The annual fee in social sciences and education fields has risen to 7,625 liras.

On the other hand, the second-education and distance-learning fee in fields such as science-literature and communication sciences was calculated as 7,140 liras. In numerous higher vocational schools such as banking, applied sciences, health, tourism, and hospitality, this fee was recorded as 8,574 liras.

For some vocational schools and programs, different figures were determined, with tuition fees reaching up to 14,286 liras and others at 5,712 liras. The School for the Disabled was included in the top group this year with an annual tuition fee of 14,286 liras.

While the hikes increase the financial burden on students and families in many departments and programs, they will particularly affect the pockets of those in second-education and distance-learning programs.
