According to the report by Erkan Ceylan from Webtekno, the reason for this is that it marks the anniversary of the conclusion of the "Special Intergovernmental Conference on the Status of Teachers" held in Paris on October 5, 1966, and the unanimous adoption of the "Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers" by UNESCO representatives and the ILO.
So what makes us different? Why do we celebrate it on November 24?
It is a practice initiated by the September 12 Military Administration in 1981, which was declared the Year of Atatürk, and it was announced one year after the coup.
The 'November 24 Teachers' Day' that has continued to the present day was declared by the then Head of State, General Kenan Evren. Evren had said, "Dear Teachers, let November 24 not only be commemorated as Teachers' Day, but let this day also be the day when the ideals of the greatest teacher, Atatürk, are realized. Furthermore, let this day also be an oath day that the children of Turkey of tomorrow are being raised in unity, solidarity, and integrity in the way Atatürk longed for. On this occasion, I wish you all happy and bright tomorrows and offer my love."
The Council of Ministers made this decision at its meeting on November 11, 1928, to grant Mustafa Kemal Atatürk the title of "Head Teacher of the Nation's Schools," and this title was made official with the publication of the Nation's Schools Directive on November 24.
With the "Teachers' Day Celebration Regulation" announced in the Official Gazette on February 26, 1981, the objectives of Teachers' Day, the roles, powers, and responsibilities of celebration committees, as well as the basic rules regarding the celebration day, were defined.
