Özlem Çerçioğlu, who was re-elected as the Aydın Metropolitan Mayor in the March 31 Local Elections by a margin of nearly 94 thousand votes over the AKP's Mustafa Savaş, received her certificate of election from Provincial Election Board Chairman Erkan İlbay at a ceremony held in the courthouse cafeteria.
In her statement there, Çerçioğlu noted that the election was a democratic race and thanked the people of Aydın for their support.
Stating that they carry out their work in the city by consulting with the citizens, Çerçioğlu said they do not follow a "we did it, so it is done" approach.
Çerçioğlu emphasized that they have not disconnected from the public and that they understand the people well.
Expressing her sadness that her certificate was presented in the cafeteria, Çerçioğlu said, "In which province of Turkey does a metropolitan mayor or a central district mayor receive their certificate of election in a courthouse cafeteria? You are receiving your certificate amidst the smell of food. This is not acceptable," she said.
