In the İYİ Party, the local election results have led to a deep crisis within the party.
Chair Meral Akşener had stated the day after the election, following calls for her resignation, that the party would head to an Extraordinary Elective Congress.
Following Akşener's Congress announcement, İYİ Party Founders' Board Member Günay Kodaz and İYİ Party Deputy Chair Responsible for Migration Policies Mehmet Tolga Akalın had announced their candidacies.
After Akşener announced on X that she would not be a candidate at the Congress, İYİ Party Parliamentary Group Deputy Chair and İzmir MP Müsavat Dervişoğlu also announced his candidacy. Thus, the number of candidates in the İYİ Party rose to 3.
KORAY AYDIN WILL ALSO BE A CANDIDATE
Journalist İsmail Saymaz stated in a post on X that after Akşener's decision, he called İYİ Party Group Chair Koray Aydın and that Aydın would also be a candidate.
Saymaz's post is as follows:
"I just spoke with Koray Aydın.
I asked, 'Are you also a candidate for the chairmanship?'
He said, 'Yes, I am a candidate too'."
Az önce Koray Aydın’la görüştüm.
