Before his party's 14th Ordinary Grand Congress, Bahçeli had an accident, sprained his shoulder, and arrived at the Congress with his arm in a sling.

"The Nationalist Movement Party is ready, thank God, for the 14th Ordinary Grand Congress. Before the congress, our Chairman Mr. Devlet Bahçeli suffered an injury to his arm due to a sudden movement, resulting in a shoulder sprain. We wish him a speedy recovery and accept this as a minor misfortune. May God protect him."
