A new step has been taken in the ongoing activity at the Bursa Metropolitan Municipality. Following the arrest and suspension of Mayor Mustafa Bozbey as part of an ongoing investigation, the Metropolitan Municipal Council will hold an extraordinary meeting on Thursday, April 9, 2026, to determine an acting mayor.
In the invitation letter sent to council members by the Bursa Governorship and relevant district governorships, it was announced that the meeting will be held at 11:00 AM in the Council Meeting Hall located in the Metropolitan Municipality Main Service Building.
The letter stated, "In accordance with the letter from the Bursa Governorship Directorate of Administrative and Audit Affairs, dated 05.04.2026, numbered E-53988792-260.01.01-256294, and titled 'Election of Acting Mayor,' the Metropolitan Municipal Council Meeting will be held on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at 11:00 AM in the Metropolitan Municipality Main Service Building Council Meeting Hall."
COUNCIL DISTRIBUTION DETERMINES THE BALANCE
Ahead of the meeting where the acting mayor will be elected, the distribution of seats in the council will be decisive for the future of Bursa politics. In the 106-member Bursa Metropolitan Municipal Council, the People's Alliance (AKP and MHP) holds the majority with 59 members, while the Republican People's Party (CHP) holds 41 seats. Looking at this picture, the possibility of the municipality's administration shifting back to the AKP is drawing attention.
