According to the unofficial results of the March 31 Local Elections, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor and CHP's candidate for the new term, Ekrem İmamoğlu, defeated the People's Alliance's AKP candidate, Murat Kurum, by a margin of 11.49 percent. As the election process continued, it was observed that Murat Kurum's posters were being removed in Istanbul, and an Atatürk poster was revealed underneath one of the removed posters.

In the March 31 Local Elections, while the CHP became the leading party across Turkey, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu defeated AKP's Istanbul candidate Murat Kurum by a margin of 11.49 percent in Istanbul.

As the vote counting continued at the ballot boxes and the margin widened, it was observed that Kurum's posters were being collected from the streets of Istanbul.
