Will the result in Hatay change? CHP delegation: 'The process is ongoing'

The Republican People's Party (CHP) objection process regarding the Hatay Metropolitan Municipality election is ongoing.

A delegation appointed by CHP Chairman Özgür Özel has arrived in Hatay.

CHP lawyers, members of parliament, and provincial and district organizations are continuing their applications regarding the Hatay election.

CHP Deputy Chairmen Gökçe Gökçen and Murat Bakan made statements regarding the election process in Hatay.

APPOINTMENT BY ÖZGÜR ÖZEL

CHP's Gökçen stated the following:

"We are here at the instruction of our Chairman, Mr. Özgür Özel. Our Deputy Chairman Murat Bakan, our members of parliament, our district chairs, and our party lawyers working at the Headquarters and in Hatay are all here together, and monitoring this process on-site is of great importance to us."

Stating that "Hatay is a city that we all view differently from other cities," Gökçen continued as follows: 

"We experienced a great tragedy in Hatay last year. While our citizens were trying to save their lives on one hand, they personally experienced their loved ones being taken from them in a very painful way on the other. That is why Hatay is still trying to heal its wounds and still trying to keep its city standing." 

"HATAY IS OF VITAL IMPORTANCE"

Using the phrase, "It is of vital importance to us that the will of the city of Hatay is reflected accurately," Gökçen said, "When President Erdoğan came to Hatay, he told the people of Hatay regarding the earthquake, 'If you do not vote for us here, you will not receive any response in terms of earthquake relief or any municipal services.' This is the place where Erdoğan announced that he would implement a punishment system directed at voters and the party they voted for. We have seen in different parts of Turkey that this has returned as a major backlash against the President's own party." she said.

"OBJECTIONS WILL CONTINUE THROUGHOUT THE PROCESS"

Stating that applications regarding the election have been filed and will continue to be filed, Gökçen said the following:

"We are here at the instruction of our Chairman, and it is important to us that the will of the people of Hatay is reflected exactly as it was cast at the ballot box, and that objections can continue, be filed correctly, and all data can be analyzed accurately. The objection process is an ongoing one. So far, our party lawyers, district organization, provincial organization, and members of parliament have been closely monitoring the situation and have made all their filings, and will continue to do so. They will continue to follow the applications throughout the objection process."

"THE MARGIN HAS DECREASED"

Gökçen also provided information regarding the objections, "Multiple applications are being filed based on the events throughout the day, the irregularities we have identified, and certain question marks regarding errors in the data or invalid votes. The margin, which was around 3,900, has dropped to 3,287 as a result of our objections. The objection process is ongoing." she said.

"THIS BALLOT BOX IS MORE IMPORTANT TO US"

CHP Deputy Chair Murat Bakan meanwhile "The ballot box is where the will of the voter is manifested. This ballot box is much more important to us. People who are struggling for existence and trying to continue their lives here have cast their votes. We have come to do our part to ensure that the will of the voters in Hatay is reflected in the results." she said.
