According to data from the Istanbul Water and Sewerage Administration (İSKİ) dated October 5, the occupancy rate in the city's dams has risen above the 35 percent level. It was noted that the rainfall effective in recent days has contributed to the water levels in the dams, albeit to a limited extent.
İSKİ data indicated that the occupancy rate in Istanbul's dams had fallen to 36.21 percent on September 27, but then entered an upward trend again with the rainfall. The course of precipitation is of critical importance for the city's water reserves.
Dr. Güven Özdemir, a faculty member and meteorological engineer at İstanbul Aydın University, stated in an assessment to AA that if the rainy systems continue to have an effect, the rise in the dams could continue.
There is a rise, albeit limited, following a few days of rainfall. The expected precipitation in the coming period will make a positive contribution to water reserves.
Experts point out that despite short-term increases, water resources must be protected and thrifty consumption habits must be maintained.
