Breaking News... Fire reignites in Bursa's Harmancık: An area the size of 10,000 football fields has burned!

Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mustafa Bozbey made statements following the forest fires that have been ongoing for days in Bursa, highlighting the severity of the situation. Stating that the fire has reignited in the Harmancık district, Bozbey said that teams have been dispatched to the region and intervention efforts are continuing.

3 PERSONNEL LOST THEIR LIVES

Sharing the grief over the 3 personnel who lost their lives while fighting the fires, Bozbey said, "A fire tanker operating in the central region rolled into a ditch. Unfortunately, we lost 3 of our martyrs in this accident. I extend my condolences to their families and our entire community."

Explaining the scale of the destruction caused by the fires with figures, Bozbey said, "We lost 1,370 hectares of forest land in Gürsu alone, and 4,700 hectares in our mountain region. This means that an area the size of approximately 10,000 football fields has been destroyed in total. Bursa has not experienced such a disaster in many years."

MILLIONS OF TREES BURNED

Emphasizing that the flames destroyed not only trees but also the ecosystem, Bozbey highlighted the ecological loss with the words, "Approximately 2 million 300 thousand trees in Harmancık and around 680 thousand pine trees in the center have turned to ash. Because of these fires, we have also lost thousands, perhaps hundreds of thousands of living creatures. A forest is not just trees; it is a whole with all the living things within it."

Stressing that what has been experienced is not just about statistics, Bozbey said, "Nature has disappeared before our eyes. As a society, we are experiencing great pain. We will work together to heal the wounds of this disaster."
