Detainees speak out! See why the fires started? Here are the shocking testimonies

In the last month, Turkey has suffered significant losses due to forest fires in provinces such as Bursa, Bilecik, Karabük, Sakarya, Uşak, Antalya, Manisa, and İzmir. 

The findings regarding the causes of the fires were shared by Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya. Yerlikaya announced that 7 suspects were detained in connection with the fires that occurred between July 22 and 27. While 3 of those detained were arrested, 4 were released under judicial control.

The Minister of Interior shared the statements given regarding the causes of the fires on his social media account. 

Here are those statements provided in Yerlikaya's announcement:

"In the Kocatöngel neighborhood of Hendek, Sakarya; it was determined that the forest fire, which started on July 22 and was extinguished the same day, occurred as a result of a fire lit for the purpose of clearing a field spreading to the forest area. A judicial control decision was issued for the suspects named M.Ç. and N.O."

"In the Boztepe neighborhood of Akyazı, Sakarya; it was determined that the forest fire, which started on July 22 and was extinguished the same day, occurred because the fire spread to the forest area while the suspect named A.B. was trying to burn his old mattress. The suspect was arrested."

"In the Karaçam neighborhood of Savaştepe, Balıkesir; it was determined that the forest fire, which started on July 25 and was extinguished the same day, occurred because a fire lit for cleaning purposes at a business spread to the forest area. In this context, the suspects named N.A., H.S., and M.S., who were determined to be in the area where the fire broke out, were detained. 2 were arrested, and a judicial control decision was issued for 1."

"In the Kışla village of Ovacık, Karabük; a judicial control decision was issued for the suspect named B.K., who was determined to be in the area where the forest fire, which started on July 23 and was extinguished on July 26, broke out."
