Directorate of Communications shares striking data: Number of forest fires in Turkey in the last 10 days is at an alarming level

A quarter of the more than 3,000 fires that have occurred in Turkey since the beginning of the year took place in just the last 10 days. This situation has once again highlighted how much the risk of fire increases during the summer months.

The Presidency's Directorate of Communications has shared current data with the public regarding fires that have occurred across the country in 2025. According to the figures released, a total of 3,181 fires have occurred since the beginning of the year. Of these, 1,351 were recorded in forested areas, while 1,830 were recorded in non-forested regions.

Another detail in the data that is particularly noteworthy is that 25 percent of these fires occurred in just the last 10 days.

The institution's statement included the following information:

“So far this year, a total of 3,181 fires have broken out, with 1,351 in forested areas and 1,830 in non-forested areas.

These fires have been responded to with 27 aircraft, 105 helicopters, 6,000 land vehicles, and 25,000 personnel. Our aircraft have performed 19,135 sorties since the beginning of summer and have dropped 62,881 tons of water.

Of the approximately 3,000 fires, 761 have occurred since June 26, when fires intensified. In other words, 25 percent of the fires that have occurred since the beginning of the year took place in just the last 10 days.

In the last 10 days, 20 major fires that reached very serious dimensions in İzmir, Sakarya, Hatay, Bilecik, Manisa, Istanbul, and Bursa have been battled. Each of these 20 fires carried the potential of the 2021 Manavgat fire. All 761 of the fires in the last 10 days have been brought under control.”

The statement emphasized that the risk of fire has increased even further due to rising temperatures and dry weather conditions in recent days, and noted that all state units are on alert.

The scale of the fires in cities such as İzmir, Sakarya, Hatay, Bilecik, Manisa, Istanbul, and Bursa was particularly notable. Officials stated that the 20 large-scale fires in these regions carried risks similar to major disasters experienced in the past.

Furthermore, it was reported that 27 aircraft, 105 helicopters, 6,000 land vehicles, and 25,000 personnel were deployed to respond to the fires, and that aircraft have carried out over 19,000 sorties and dropped over 62,000 tons of water since the beginning of summer.
