Efforts to contain forest fire in Milas, Muğla continue

Ground operations continue against the forest fire that broke out in the Milas district of Muğla as darkness falls. It was decided to evacuate the Çakırılan neighborhood near Sekköy as a precaution.

The fire broke out for an unknown reason in the forested area in the Sekköy locality. Upon notification, teams affiliated with the Muğla Regional Directorate of Forestry were dispatched to the region. During the daylight hours, the fire was fought from the air with 6 planes and 8 helicopters.

With the onset of darkness, ground operations continue. In addition to numerous water tenders, fire trucks, and forestry workers, the gendarmerie's TOMA vehicles and construction equipment from Yeniköy Kemerköy Electricity Generation and Trade Inc. (YK Enerji) are also participating in the extinguishing efforts. Volunteers from various non-governmental organizations and citizens are also supporting the firefighting efforts.

Some residents living in the neighborhood moved their livestock away from the area due to the heavy smoke. It was observed that some individuals were watering the surroundings of their homes with hoses and buckets to protect them from the flames. The struggle to bring the fire under control continues.

STATEMENT FROM THE MINISTRY OF NATIONAL DEFENSE

The Ministry of National Defense (MSB) announced that, upon the request of the General Directorate of Forestry, 2 T-70, 1 AS-532, and 2 CH-47 type helicopters were assigned to intervene in the forest fire that broke out in the Sekköy region near Milas.

ÇAKIRILAN NEIGHBORHOOD BEING EVACUATED 

As the fire spread to the surrounding area due to strong winds that began after dark, it was decided to evacuate the Çakırılan neighborhood near Sekköy as a precaution. Vehicles for 250 people were requested for the evacuation of the neighborhood residents. Muğla Governor İdris Akbıyık also arrived at the fire zone and received information from the authorities.
