It was revealed that the person named Ufuk A., who was taken into custody in the region following reports from citizens, had started the fire on purpose.
GASOLINE FOUND IN HIS VEHICLE, HE WAS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY
Teams took action after citizens reported a suspicious vehicle in the Orhaneli district where the fire broke out, and caught Ufuk A. with gasoline canisters in his vehicle. The suspect was immediately taken into custody.
The Bursa Governor's Office announced that an investigation had been launched regarding the incident. In the statement made by the Governor's Office, it was stated, "Within the scope of the investigation, an individual who had previously been processed due to links with FETÖ has been taken into custody."

According to the report by Sabah Newspaper, it was learned that the detained Ufuk A. was a former non-commissioned officer and was dismissed from the military in 2021 within the scope of a FETÖ investigation.
In his statement taken at the police station, he made a chilling confession. The interrogation record included the following:
“I was dismissed from my position as a non-commissioned officer in 2021. I worked in various jobs after that date. My relationship with my family deteriorated, and I was kicked out of the house. I no longer wanted to live. I wanted to go to prison for life. On the night of July 27, at 21:30, I bought gasoline in a canister from a gas station in the district center. I went to Kışmanlar Park in my own car and set the trees there on fire.”

Stating in his testimony that his mobile phone fell to the ground and burned during the fire, Ufuk A. also said that he sustained minor burns on his hands and feet and quickly fled the scene.
Preliminary interviews with Ufuk A. are being conducted by the Anti-Terrorism Branch Directorate. With the suspect admitting that he intentionally set the forest on fire, he is expected to be processed on charges of “intentionally burning a forest” and “terror-linked sabotage.”
