The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in the USA has detected a severe geomagnetic storm on the Sun's surface.
NOAA has issued a warning that it could cause potential disruptions to electronic devices and power grids.
Geomagnetic storms occur as a result of the interaction between the Earth's magnetic field and solar winds, and can affect technological infrastructure such as GPS, and even disrupt communication systems like radio frequencies and satellite operations.

NASA has released a photo of the massive explosion on the Sun.
The largest explosion on the Sun since 2017 was captured by the Solar Dynamics Observatory belonging to the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) on December 15, 2023, and it was announced that the explosion temporarily disabled radio signals on Earth.
Stating that auroras caused by the storm in question could be observed in the US states of Alabama and Northern California, scientists recalled the severe geomagnetic storm that occurred on the Sun's surface in 2005, emphasizing that these are rare.
It has been determined that the source of the geomagnetic storm resulting from the explosions on the Sun is a "large, complex sunspot cluster" called "Region 3664," which covers an area 16 times the size of Earth.

In the statement by NOAA, attention was drawn to the potential effects of the storm approaching Earth, noting that "widespread voltage control problems could arise" and that "drag, tracking, and orientation problems" could be experienced in satellites in orbit.
It was noted that disruptions could occur in satellite navigation systems and radio receiver frequencies due to the storm in question, that outages lasting for hours could be experienced, or that some similar devices might not work at all.
