Professor Todd Lane from the University of Melbourne stated that climate change is leading to an increase in turbulence that results in injuries or death.
Lane made these remarks to ABC News Australia following the incident yesterday where a Singapore Airlines flight traveling from London, the capital of the UK, to Singapore encountered turbulence, resulting in the death of one passenger and injuries to more than 30 others.
Professor Lane stated that climate change is leading to an increase in turbulence that causes injuries or death.
Noting that global warming affects wind flow patterns and air currents, Lane expressed that this situation causes turbulence to occur more frequently.
Lane also mentioned that the intensity of thunderstorms is increasing with climate change, which in turn leads to more severe turbulence.
It was reported that the flight "SQ321" from London to Singapore, carrying 211 passengers and 18 crew members, encountered severe turbulence yesterday while in airspace over a region experiencing tropical storms.
It was reported that one of the passengers lost their life and more than 30 were injured as a result of the turbulence.
