Due to the impact of decreasing rainfall in Istanbul, water levels in the dams have dropped to a critical point. According to İSKİ data, the occupancy rate across the city has fallen to 17 percent, while water levels in some dams have dropped below 5 percent.

Decreasing rainfall in Istanbul has significantly lowered water levels in the dams. Many factors such as the increasing population, unconscious water consumption, infrastructure losses, closed water sources, and global warming have brought the water problem in large cities back to the agenda. According to data shared by the Istanbul Water and Sewerage Administration (İSKİ), dam occupancy rates across the city have fallen to 17 percent levels.
