İSKİ rejects 'wastewater' allegations: 'Our water is safe'

Düzce Mayor Faruk Özlü, in a statement regarding the sources supplying Istanbul's water needs via the Melen River, claimed that "due to investments that İSKİ has failed to complete, water mixed with sewage is going to Istanbul." Following this statement, a response came from İSKİ.

In its statement, İSKİ noted that the allegations do not reflect the truth and emphasized that 1 billion 120 million TL has been invested in Düzce since 2019. Furthermore, it was stated that Istanbul's drinking water is treated in modern facilities and delivered to the network in accordance with all standards.

ALLEGATIONS REJECTED

The written statement issued by İSKİ also included the following remarks:

"There is absolutely no situation such as wastewater mixing into the drinking water consumed by Istanbul residents. Every single drop of drinking water we provide to our citizens is treated in our modern drinking water treatment plants and supplied to the network, meeting all domestic and international standards. Data regarding water quality can be found at iski.istanbul.

The quality of drinking water is monitored 24 hours a day online at facility outlets, and through daily samples taken by our Administration's teams from reservoirs and networks, and is regularly audited by the Ministry of Health. Necessary inspections and investments in our drinking water basins continue uninterrupted to ensure our raw water quality does not deteriorate and is improved."

İSKİ announced that it has carried out collaborations with the municipalities of Ankara, Kars, and Artvin within the framework of the "Water Brotherhood Protocols" conducted in line with a Presidential circular. Additionally, it stated that they are ready to sign a similar protocol with the Düzce Municipality.
