The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM) announced in a statement today that starting tomorrow, winds will begin to blow from the south and will be effective as a lodos (southwesterly wind). It was emphasized that on Thursday in particular, wind speeds are expected to reach between 30 and 60 kilometers per hour, potentially reaching storm force.
Officials stated that in addition to the strong lodos, intermittent downpours are also expected, and citizens should be cautious against sudden weather changes.
Spring-like weather is coming to the city following cold winter days. According to AKOM, air temperatures, which are currently hovering between 7 and 10 degrees, are expected to rise to 18 degrees by Sunday. With this sudden temperature increase, it is estimated that Istanbul will experience a brief spell of spring weather.
Meteorology experts remind residents to be cautious against potential negative incidents such as roof damage and fallen trees due to the strong winds.
