Meteorology expert gives date for snowfall in Istanbul: It will be stronger this time, snow depth could exceed 10 centimeters

According to the weekly weather forecast report from the General Directorate of Meteorology, while sleet is expected in the inland parts of the Western Black Sea, heavy snowfall is predicted for Istanbul and its surroundings. Meteorology Expert Prof. Dr. Orhan Şen stated that Istanbul and the Western Black Sea will be covered in white between February 21-22-23.

Prof. Dr. Şen expressed that the expected snowfall in Istanbul could be 2-3 cm more than previous snowfalls and that the snow depth could reach up to 10 centimeters.

"TEMPERATURES WILL DROP OVER THE WEEKEND"

“Winds coming from the Northeast, combined with the high pressure coming over Siberia and the sea effect, will cause snowfall in the Marmara Region and the Western Black Sea region,” said Prof. Dr. Şen, drawing attention to the upcoming weekend and sharing the following information:

“A strong snowfall is coming to Istanbul next weekend; we had said it would be a bit more for the second snowfall, and we can say that the one coming next week will be more than the snow that fell previously. The snow expected on Friday the 21st may also spill over into Saturday or Sunday. The snow coming on these days looks to be a bit more. Winds coming from the Northeast, combined with the high pressure coming over Siberia and the sea effect, will cause snowfall in the Marmara Region and the Western Black Sea region.”

Compared to previous snowfalls, there is a possibility of 2-3 centimeters more snow falling this time. Stating that the snow depth could rise to 10 centimeters, Prof. Dr. Şen noted that temperatures could drop to 4 degrees Celsius over the weekend.
