The water level in the Gökçe Dam, which meets the drinking water needs of Yalova, has dropped to 10 percent. With only 20 days of water remaining if there is no rainfall in the coming period, Governor Hülya Kaya has called on citizens to conserve water.

The water level in the Gökçe Dam, located in the Termal district of Yalova, has dropped to 10 percent. The amount of usable water in the dam, which meets the city's daily water requirement of 35-40 thousand cubic meters, has fallen to approximately 20 days' worth. It was learned that the water level in the dam during the same period last year was at 25 percent.
Yalova Governor Hülya Kaya stated that the desired level of rainfall has not been received this year, saying, "When we compare it to last year, we see that our water reserves have decreased significantly. We have about 20-25 days of water left. In our 25 million cubic meter Gökçe Dam, we have a water reserve of approximately 2.5 million left.
Therefore, when we look at it now, we do not expect any significant rainfall in the near future. Consequently, it is of great importance that the water we have is used very sparingly. We are already carrying out our work on this in coordination between institutions," she said.
Stating that they have implemented a smart water meter system in the village region for the first time this year, Kaya said, "Thanks to this, we have reduced water consumption by 50 percent. Therefore, we think this will also be a very serious support. However, our work with the Yeşil Körfez Water Union and the DSI continues. We hope that if we can manage the existing water at least until the middle of December in this way, we believe our reserves will fill up with the rainfall after that," she added.
Calling on citizens to conserve water, Kaya stated, "There is only one thing left to say here: use water carefully. Apart from that, our work regarding the construction of a new dam for Yalova is already ongoing. It has now reached the project tender stage. When that is completed, hopefully, we will no longer talk about a water problem in Yalova. At the very least, in this period when drought is felt very intensely, our citizens must definitely think twice when using water."
