Strong downpour and storm warning for Istanbul from AKOM! Temperatures to drop to 12 degrees

The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM) has issued a warning for thunderstorms and strong winds in Istanbul for Sunday, September 27.

According to AKOM's weather forecast report, winds in the city are expected to blow from the north at speeds of 30-60 kilometers per hour, with occasional storm-force gusts. Humidity levels are expected to range between 55 and 90 percent, while the sea water temperature is reported to be around 21 degrees.

The report predicts that temperatures in Istanbul will be 19 degrees in the morning, 22 degrees at noon, 20 degrees in the evening, and 17 degrees at night. It was noted that cool and rainy weather systems arriving via the Balkans will be effective across the Marmara region throughout the week, with temperatures expected to drop below 20 degrees.

According to AKOM's weekly forecast, the rainy weather will continue intermittently in the coming days. Precipitation is expected to be particularly heavy on Monday and Tuesday.

• - Monday, September 28: Thunderstorms; temperature 16-20 degrees, precipitation 20-50 kg/m2.
• - Tuesday, September 29: Thunderstorms; temperature 14-18 degrees, precipitation 30-60 kg/m2.
• - Wednesday, September 30: Very cloudy with showers; temperature 13-19 degrees, precipitation 10-20 kg/m2.
• - Thursday, October 1: Partly to very cloudy; temperature 12-20 degrees, no precipitation expected.
• - Friday, October 2: Very cloudy with light rain; temperature 12-19 degrees, precipitation 3-7 kg/m2.
• - Saturday, October 3: Thunderstorms; temperature 13-20 degrees, precipitation 5-15 kg/m2.

Authorities remind citizens to be cautious against potential disruptions such as transportation delays, flooding, and roof damage due to the strong downpours and winds.
