The East has frozen over: Meteorology has announced Turkey's coldest provinces

According to measurements by the General Directorate of Meteorology between 18:00 on December 10, 2025, and 06:00 on December 11, 2025, the lowest temperature values of the night in Turkey have been determined. Accordingly, thermometers showed -10.8 degrees in the Selim district of Kars, -10.7 degrees in the Yayladüzü town of Ağrı's Eleşkirt district, -10.4 degrees in the Ovit area of Rize's İkizdere district, -9.5 degrees in Kars city center, -9.1 degrees at the Erzurum Palandöken Eastern Anatolia Observatory, -7.3 degrees in the Çanakyayla village of Bitlis's Adilcevaz district, -7.1 degrees in the Sarıkamış district of Kars, and -6.3 degrees in the Ulutaş village of Erzurum's İspir district.

While cold weather continues to affect the Eastern Anatolia Region, the weather is expected to be very cloudy throughout the entire region. Starting from the morning hours, intermittent rain and sleet are expected in the northeast of Erzurum, as well as in Erzincan, Bayburt, and their surroundings, with snowfall predicted in high-altitude areas. Across the region, icing and frost events, along with mist and localized fog, will be effective during the morning and night hours. It is assessed that air temperatures will remain above seasonal norms, and the wind will blow from southern directions, light to occasionally moderate in strength.
